How to Make a Laptop Battery Last Longer PDF Print E-mail
While many agree that an average life span of a laptop battery goes from 18 to 36 months when the battery is handled with care. So, why is it that we frequently see customers with fairly new laptop batteries completely dead? We are talking about computers with batteries of 4 to 6 months old.
In this short article we will tell you how you might be able to extend the life of your laptop battery, this tip will be helpful if your laptop is brand new or if you just purchased a new laptop battery.
First you must know the difference of life expectancy vs. operational hours.
Laptop Batteries
1. Life expectancy of a laptop battery: This is the life span in age measured by months or years of a battery.
2. Operational Hours of a laptop battery: This is what the manufacturing specs define in hours lasting of operation in every computer. Keep in mind that one type or model of laptop battery might be used in different models of computers.

Every computer model are made different in terms of screen size, hard drive types, wireless cards types etc. all these additional devices consumes power more than others. However they may be using the same type of battery, maybe the exact model of battery or maybe not but most probably the same quantity of cells in the battery package. Therefore when a laptop battery pack is fully charged it will provide certain hours of actual user operation, which can be more or less when compared to other computer models. The life expectancy of a laptop battery however is different, but it is relevant as the battery gets old; the operational hours will decrease until the battery doesn't hold any power any more.

So, what is the secret to keep the battery last longer?
Well, we don't believe this is a secret. Even though computer manufacturers don't provide you this information, actually we are almost certain that no one will provide you this information. But if you really think about what we are going to tell you will understand that it is nothing else than common sense.

Have you noticed that your Laptop computer overheats?
All laptop computers warm up and some do really overheat. The heat generated by a laptop computer is really bad and is the main cause of damages to laptop batteries.
All batteries are made of Acid (liquid) when the liquid is heated up, it evaporates and dries out. When there is no more liquid in the battery that means it is dead.

An  example is here:
Have you ever boiled water on a stove for tea or coffee? If you leave the water boiling for more than 45 minutes you will see the difference in the amount of water left due to the evaporation, the longer you expose the water to the heat the pot eventually will be empty, right?
The recommendation is to remove the battery from the laptop if it is fully charged and have it ready to be used when you really need to use it. You should really consider this if you use your laptop 8 hours a day at the office or at home when you have it plugged into the power outlet. When the battery is inserted on a laptop that is plugged in for several hours a day, the battery is being affected by the heat of the computer.
